What is Translation?
Translation is the process of converting written words and texts from a language (source language) to another (target language). Translation services entail different types that include, but not limited to, technical translation, Legal translation, financial translation, medical translation, literary translation, economic translation, political translation, etc.
How does it work?
The regular translation services follow a specific plot to ensure that the final document is perfectly converted according to the content, format and purpose of the original text:
Translators are the first linguists to work on the original text; the assigned translator converts the original text to the target language, focusing on maintaining the technical language (names, terminologies, etc.) and subject-area conventions.
A bilingual expert checks the accuracy of the translation and ensures the correctness of the grammar, spelling, structuring, and reflecting the style of the original text. Editing stage looks at the text as a whole to guide the translator to the editing and refining actions to be applied to the document in hand.
The reviewer checks the vocabulary, context, punctuation, grammar, language style, formatting, clarity, and fluency. The reviewer is responsible for assuring the quality of the translated text and that it meets the highest industry standards and the client’s requirements.
The proofreading stage ensures that the text is fully translated, perfectly put into its final format, and that it adheres to all the requirements. The final product must serve the pre-defined purpose and fill all the gaps.
This is an on-going process through the language translation process from planning through execution to the last stage of revision before final delivery, where everyone member of the translation team works to maintain the overall quality.
How do we do it?
Contentech uses a mix of human talents and technological tools to deliver the best language translation services in terms of quality and time, following a strict process that involves:
Before proceeding with the document translation services, the Project Manager (PM) completes a review of the overall scope of the project including timeline, inventory of files, glossaries (if applicable), and final file delivery.
During the quoting or project review process, we determine if a template needs to be built for the translation phase, like when the client’s source file might need to be recreated if it is in a non-editable format (scanned PDF).
For large-scale projects, we recommend a standard glossary to be developed that all translators can refer to. If time constraints prevent developing a glossary upfront, we recommend compiling one after the project completion to be used in subsequent projects.
The Project Manager assigns the translation to an appropriately-qualified and experienced native speaker translator of the target language. The translator works on the task then sends it back to the Project Manager for review and further comments.
All initial translations are reviewed by a second qualified professional translator/editor to ensure the quality of the translation and pick up the overlooked errors, mistyping, grammar mistakes, typography, word choice or stylistic differences.
Once the editor has reviewed the initial translation, he/she incorporates the comments and submits it to the original translator. The original translator uses his/her discretion to accept or reject the suggested changes. Upon request, a draft may be sent to the client prior to formatting.
Our DTP/Typesetting team precisely formats each translation to match the original material, while being sensitive to the audience’s cultural nuances. Our Project Manager works with the client to ensure all the deliverables meet the format requirements.
After formatting the material, Contentech runs a mechanical proof to determine that the layout, fonts, headers and footers, pagination, margins, graphics and positioning are all correct, and that the text flows smoothly.
Our assigned Project Manager gathers all the final deliverables, verifying that they meet the original specifications. Our delivery schedule depends on the volume of material we’re translating and the timeline discussed with the client during the project review.
For most work assignments, the assigned Account Manager contacts the client directly just after the final delivery to make sure the process was professionally run with full commitment towards the project requirements, mainly quality and delivery deadline.
